Taxonomies and Thesauri with SKOS is a specialized training focused on using the Simple Knowledge Organization System (SKOS) to develop structured vocabularies for organizing information. After this training you will be able to:
- Explain key concepts in SKOS.
- Design and create taxonomies and thesauri using SKOS.
- Apply best practices in taxonomy and thesaurus management.
- Analyze and troubleshoot common issues in taxonomy creation and management.
SKOS is a standard framework for building and sharing taxonomies, thesauri, and other types of controlled vocabularies. When using SKOS in combination with Linked Data principles and RDF, data interoperability across data silos is enhanced.
This training provides an in-depth introduction to SKOS, covering the principles and methodologies for creating effective taxonomies and thesauri. Participants will learn how to design, implement, and manage these vocabularies to enhance an organization’s information architecture. -
This training is suitable for:
- IT Professionals: For better implementation of information systems using SKOS.
- Data Analysts: To improve data categorization and interpretation.
- Data Scientists: To enhance data interoperability and search accuracy.
- Content Managers: To structure and manage digital content efficiently.
- Knowledge Managers: To optimize the organization and retrieval of organizational knowledge.
- Be familiar with Linked Data and RDF (Resource Description Framework). The 'Introduction Linked Data' training addresses these topics and is ideally suited to follow as a pre-requisite training.
- Bring a laptop that can run VocBench (that requires Java 17 or higher).
